CHARACTER NAME: Meta Knight

HISTORY: this counts as a history?? HE'S BEEN IN A LOT, I'M SORRY

STRENGTHS:
Honorable - Meta Knight's passion for fighting is tempered by his resolve to do things the correct way and his respect for those who clash against him. He always makes sure his opponents start on equal footing with him, and desires to test those he feels are worthy rivals in 1 on 1 combat that he allows nobody to interfere with. Though his goals may be somewhat questionable at times, in the end he always ends up on the side of justice, working to safeguard the future and do what he thinks is right.

Determined - Once he's set on a goal (or more likely, an opponent), Meta Knight refuses to back down until he's achieved it. What those goals are might be abstract (getting rid of lazy lifestyles) or they might be more understandable (trying to repel invaders from Popstar), but he refuses to stop fighting until he's literally rendered incapable of doing so. This is less prevalent in social contexts where he's not waving a sword around, and he's actually quite soft-spoken, but he'll still stick to what he believes quite strongly (if he decides to talk at all).

Resilient - Meta Knight bounces back from everything quickly - not just injuries, but arguments and disagreements too. Despite his tendency to want to fight everything and everyone, he also believes any big disagreements between those he considers allies can be settled with a nice, refreshing battle, and then things will clear up again. He's ultimately not one to hold deep grudges, and provided you can earn it, he's quick to jump to the aid or defense of his allies if he's needed. Though he might be suspicious or withdrawn around others he has prior experience with, he always tries to be fair no matter what the circumstances.

FLAWS:

Honorable - A double-edged sword that can hurt him as much as it helps. Meta Knight's insistence on honorable fights can estrange and alienate him from allies who are more willing to use more underhanded or subtle tactics, or put him in danger from people who are willing to take advantage of his fairer nature and play along until the time is right for them to strike. His methods of using duels to settle scores often means he narrows his focus, rather than seeing the bigger picture. If others don't adhere to the rules he sets, he often gets crotchety about it.

Mysterious - Years of independence has given Meta Knight some unfortunate communication problems that can only be developed when you're used to operating by yourself. He tends to see problems and go to correct them by himself; it rarely occurs to him that he should tell someone where he's going or what he's doing. In the occasions where he's unable to fix the problem himself, he often ends up getting in trouble instead, and has to be rescued.

When he does communicate, his ability to explain himself and what's happening can often be somewhat lacking. He's just simply never needed to say much, and so he struggles with the concept of having to. He speaks in actions more than words, sometimes to a slightly detrimental degree. It's not that he's withholding information out of pride or an intent to mislead; it just slips his mind sometimes.

Battle-hungry - Meta Knight, at his core, just really enjoys fighting, and he enjoys fighting so much that it tends to be his major problem-solving tool in basically any circumstance that allows it. This tends to lead to a sort of hammer and nail situation, where Meta Knight likes to solve every problem he possibly can through violence of some description, and is slow to consider other avenues.

CANON ABILITIES: Let's just link this moveset that's easier.


AU INFORMATION

AU CHARACTER NAME: Meta Knight
AGE: Centuries.
POSITION: Piloting Instructor, "Combat Therapist"
AU BACKSTORY:

- Used to be part of some kind of cosmic darkness hivemind that observed the world from the stars

- Was cut off from his colony and crashed to Earth as a meteor centuries ago after watching sentient civilisation across the Earth and Outlands, feeling the spark of want ignite and spur his individuality

- Ended up absorbing the ideas of honor codes, justice, and worthy opponents from various civilisations across the ages, both Outlands and Earth, and gained more of an individual sense of himself as a result of interacting with people a lot

- Fought a lot of people across the years, some good, some bad; he was more intimidating and mysterious when he was young, but ended up mellowing out the older he got, lending his sword to the pursuit of justice rather than just combat

- Found and repaired a flying battleship stuck in the Outlands with the assistance of a group of scavengers who were living in it; he offered them protection and the chance to find a better home. These scavengers later became the crew of the Halberd and the Meta-Knights.

- Kept fighting people for fun. Halberd keeps getting destroyed, but he repairs it every time, and it has since become a representation of his fighting spirit due to the work and love he put into it.

- Arrives at Daybreak after reports of it being embattled and embroiled in conflict reached him. Hopes to raise morale somewhat.

AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: Less of a cagey loner, since he's encountered a lot more people than he does in canon and not just through fighting them. He's also very old, and that makes him more conscious of the effects his actions might have on others - he's around to see the results!

He's also less inflexible and insistent on fighting everything than he is in canon. He's aware he can't solve every problem by fighting (though he does his best) and is a little less hard-edged about doing everything the Correct and Honorable way.

This all results in a Meta Knight who's less immediately aggressive and more receptive to other people's points of view. He still does want to fight everything, though...

RACE: Star Warrior?? Some kind of Outlands creature.
SECRET SOCIETY: He's a secret society all by himself. He holds no affiliation.
POWERS:
Flight - Meta Knight has bat wings that can be wrapped around him and hidden under his cape. His cape needs to be removed for him to utilize them to his full potential.

Combat Skill - Meta Knight is a combat powerhouse, and centuries of honing his unique style against many colourful opponents have made him a versatile and terrifying combatant with a sword, able to match opponents many times his size. Notable abilities include being able to combine his speed and his use of the sword into a tornado that can trap enemies within it.

Dimensional Cape - Meta Knight's cape can be used to short-range teleport anything that is small enough for the cape to cover. This tends to be just himself and is used primarily as a combat technique, but he could theoretically teleport anything his size or smaller along with him as long as it can fit under the cape.

Galaxia - Meta Knight's magical sword, capable of cutting the air fast enough to send out sonic booms that can slice into opponents and absorbing elemental energy that can be used to enhance its capabilities. It never blunts its edge, no matter what it strikes, and it steadfastly refuses to yield any punishment that would shatter conventional weapons; Meta Knight can use it to block or parry attacks no normal weapon could withstand, including abilities like energy beams.

It appears to possess very little in the way of special attacks or abilities otherwise.

It's thought that Galaxia helps Meta Knight to react even faster to enemies that he might be otherwise unaware of, but if the sword has a consciousness in this way, nobody has ever confirmed it. Legend has it that it cuts the hands of those who attempt to wield it for malicious purpose.

Pilot - Meta Knight knows how to maintain and fly a large magical battleship. He also has a great deal of experience and interest in flying all sorts of magical aircraft, though he is a specialist in the unique and often mythical constructs called the Air Ride Machines.
